Common FAQ

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY "MODERN HANDMADE GOODS"? Products at Greater Goods are designed and/or created using traditional techniques and artisanal skills. However, the aesthetic is fresh and forward-thinking. Our artists don't ignore modern trends, pop culture, or contemporary fashion, but they translate those inspirations into products that show the best of local handicrafts. IS EVERYTHING YOU SELL MADE BY HAND? Greater Goods only sells goods that show the originality, creativity, and handcrafting ability of the maker. In some cases, our artists supply their original design to a printer or manufacturer to create the finished product, but their inspiration is always the center of the piece. In other cases, our artisans individually carry out the whole process from start to finish. It all depends on the nature of the item and the medium. WHAT KIND OF PRODUCTS DO YOU SELL? Greater Goods is constantly finding new talent in our community, and our stock changes with the seasons. However, you can usually expect to find jewelry; bath & body products; paper goods; ceramics; home decor and much more! IS EVERYTHING LOCALLY MADE? Our shop in Bridgeland is all about local, Calgary artisans, with a few of the best makers from across the country mixed in. More local than what you'll find in most gift shops! HOW DO YOU FIND THE WORK YOU CARRY? Artists and designers often reach out to us wanting to be part of Greater Goods, and if you're interested, we'd love to hear from you! Just visit our application page. (As Greater Goods is becoming more of a presence in our local retail scene, you may not receive a reply unless we have a spot on the shelves for your work in the current season.) CAN I BRING SAMPLES OF MY WORK TO SHOW YOU IN PERSON? It can be difficult for our customers to get the shopping experience they deserve if we're also hearing vendor pitches. Therefore, as much as we'd love to see your work in person. HOW DOES SELLING AT GREATER GOODS WORK? We operate on a consignment model and we protect our artisans with signed contracts, sales statements, and monthly payouts. HOW ARE THE PRICES OF THE PRODUCTS DETERMINED? Our artisans set the prices to reflect the quality of their materials, the needs of their creative process, and the effort and time they lavish into each product. DO YOU ACCEPT RETURNS OR EXCHANGES? Since we're a small business representing individual artisans using a consignment model, items purchased at Greater Goods are final sale only.  These terms protect our artisans' interests when they choose to contribute their talent to our community.
